Welcome & 3/30/11 Meeting

So uh, Hey. This is Tyler from American University Independent Arts Collective (or AUIAC from this post on cause I refuse to type that out again), and I'd like to say what's good? How are you? I'm great thanks for asking. So this is the spot where we're gonna post news about the club, ideas that are in the works, ramblings about bands we like, arguments over who's opinion is terrible, etc etc etc.

So I was told by Carolyn to write down everything I remember from the meeting, even the stuff that I was thinking. So here we go.

As I walked into the SIS building, I noticed how i've been in here one time.  The ceilings are really high and i'm intimidated, my anxiety gets the best of me again since i'm already late to the meeting, however I..... just kidding. I'm not doing that.

Basically what we talked about was things we have in store for the rest of the year, the April 15 Caufield, Beartrap, The Feed, Lapse, Skin Failure Show in Kay Basement.  Go to the show, gonna be super rad.  We also have a show on April 23, Shirks, Deathrats (record release!), Stripmines, Dry Spell, Unholy Thoughts which is going to be AWESOME (Facebook link for all you facebookers http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=176574095722714) . However we have a slight predicament. We were originally scheduled to have it in the East Quad Building (moldly smell and all) but supposedly they don't want us to have it for some reason about the carpeting... cause shows NEVER are on carpet. Ever. I can't believe they even gave us that in the first place (sarcasm).  So right now we're in the process of figuring out where the show is gonna be, possible locations include Tavern, Amphitheater, Battelle atrium, some others that I honestly can't remember because I should be doing homework but i'm a procrastinator.  HOWEVER.  It will work, we'll get the show on cause I personally think Shirks are rad as hell.

After complaining and venting our frustrations, we started talking about the different things we can use our extra cash for.  One of the ideas brought up by Max Gibbons was that we should use it to make a vinyl banner to put behind bands during the shows. Super rad, I personally hope we do this because I think that'd be a great addition and show some pride and personalization of our group.  Another idea was to print some stickers and such for the group, so we can distribute them to kids at the shows to post around dc, to get the word out about our club and the different events.  Another sound idea, and ideas about hardcore moshin' eagles are being drawn up as I write this (my roommate who listens to straight hip hop from the 80's found our idea hilarious and immediately started drawing).

We also talked about finally getting a photo zine together of photos from the different shows we have, along with putting them up here (once I get access to those, or someone else posts them). Also, we may be having a punk flea market swap thing of sorts towards the end of the school year which would also be really rad.

We thought a cool thing that we could do for next years club, because we honestly show no intentions of stopping, we only want to grow.  Ryan suggested that we could maybe put out a 7inch sampler of local dc bands and press some vinyl and sell/hand them out.  As a vinyl addict, I found this to be a GREAT idea, and I really hope we do that in the future.

After all the business was taken care of, we went to a "wedding reception" and got some cake, vegan cupcakes, and sparkling cider. Thanks for the food/drink LBGTA, you rule.

Okay, that's about enough from me.  I personally will end every post with a suggestion of an album or two that everyone should listen to.

This post's suggested album will be:

Fairweather - If They Move, Kill Them.

DC Pop Punk from the early 2000's, this band is doing a reunion show on May 14 at the Black Cat. Super catchy, fast pop punk. Nothing to complain about at all.

Signing out,

---- Tyler
